About the Department. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The Village of Cahokia is one of the earliest settlements in the State of Illinois, established in 1699. Cahokia is located along the Mississippi River and is part of the St. Louis Metropolitan area. The population served by the Department is over 17,000 residents. The Department is a member of the St. Clair County Drug Task Force, the St. Louis Metropolitan Major Case Squad, the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force and participates in a DEA task force.

The Department was awarded a federal grant in 1971 to fund the purchase of patrol vehicles for a police car saturation program. The program provided take-home patrol cars for all department officers, to be visible in the community and act as a deterrent to crime. The program has been successful and continues today.

The Department became part of the State of Illinois I-WIN program (Illinois Wireless Information Network) in 2000. This system allows officers to use in-car laptop computers using cell phone technology to communicate directly with the Illinois State Police computer system. The officers also can communicate with other departments throughout the state.

Jeremy Chambers Memorial Fund

Patrolman Jeremy Chambers was killed in the line of duty on Monday April 24, 2006 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. A fund has been created to establish a Memorial at the historic wedge across from Holy Family Church in Cahokia. The Memorial will honor Jeremy and will be dedicated to all branches of Public Service. Jeremy was a true public servant and touched so many lives in his short 26 years as a Life Guard, Police Explorer, Volunteer Cahokia Fire Fighter, Emergency Medical Technician, Auxillary Police Officer and as a Cahokia Policeman. This Memorial will honor anyone who is killed while performing public service. This is the way Jeremy lived his life and will be a true memorial to his dedication.

Donations can be made at any Regions Bank to the Jeremy Chambers Memorial Fund
